Mountain Gorillas in Bwindi

Gorilla Gorilla Gorilla (Gorilla Berengei Berengei)

Mountain Gorillas, are regarded as Gorilla Beringei Beringei, one of the two subspecies of the eastern Gorilla.
Gorilla gorilla, this species is inhabited in the Virunga volcanic mountains of central Africa, with in the 3 national parks, volcanoes national park in north-west of Rwanda, Mgahinga southwest of Uganda and the virunga in the east part of Democratic Republican of Congo.
The other gorilla group is found Uganda’s Bwindi impenetrable national park. These Gorillas are listed as critically endangered species with 98% human DNA.
The actual number since the 2006 census, is estimated of 880 mountain Gorillas remaining in the world, Bwindi Mountain Gorilla population is considered as a separate subspecies.
Mountain Gorillas are descendants of monkey apes in Africa, their intelligent and the largest apes in the primate group.
Mountain Gorillas live in elevations of 1,100 meters high in Bwindi impenetrable national park and about 1,850m in the virungas.
The lower levels of the land is occupied by humans. The habitats of mountain Gorillas include bamboo forest, mixed forest and grassland on the volcano peaks.
While the ones in Bwindi forest live at a lower elevation, in the forest with steep slopes. How the Gorilla eat, they feed on plants, fruits,stems,pith,leaves,bark and sometimes ants.
Although their food items are wild nettles,wood and roots.BerengeiBerengei,they feed until night and then travel.
Gorillas always display their nests to sleep in, the nests are in trees and some on the ground. They stay in a distance of 6-40km2.
They live in a group/family of 10-30, the groups consist of a male,female and off springs. Life history, Males produce at the age of 8-12years.
Until the age of 12 when they are considered as silverbacks although they are full adults at the age of 15years.
Females become sexually activity at the age of 6years of age, they go through a reproduction process of 28days.
The off springs are weaned at the age of 3years, when they no longer travel on their mothers back. They have a life span of 40years.
